How to Reset Your Apple ID Password in a Few Easy Steps

 What to Know

  • Go to Apple's IForgotAppleID website. Enter the username and use a recovery email or answer security questions to reset your password.
  • If you use two-factor authentication, a Reset Password message appears on your trusted device. Follow the prompts to reset the password.
  • On a Mac, sign in to iTunes and click Forgot Apple ID or Password. Then follow the prompts to reset your Apple ID password.

This article explains how to reset your Apple ID password if you've forgotten it.

How to Reset Your Apple ID Password on the Web

If you've tried all the passwords you think might be correct and you still can't log in, you need to reset your Apple ID password. Here's how to do that using Apple's website (if you have two-factor authentication set up on your Apple ID, skip these instructions and go to the next section):

  1. In your browser, go to iforgot.apple.com.

  2. Enter your Apple ID username, then click Continue.

  3. There are two ways to reset your password: using the recovery email address you have on file in your account or answering your security questions. Make your choice and click Continue.

  4. If you chose to Get an email, check the email account shown on the screen, then enter the verification code from the email and click Continue. Now skip to step 7.

  5. If you chose to Answer security questions, begin by entering your birthday, then answer two of your security questions and click Continue

  6. Enter your new Apple ID password. The password must be 8 or more characters, include upper and lowercase letters, and have at least one number. The Strength indicator shows how secure the password you choose is.

  7. When you're happy with your new password, click Reset Password to make the change.

Resetting Your Apple ID Password with Two-Factor Authentication

Resetting your Apple ID password requires more steps if you're using two-factor authentication to provide an additional layer of security. In that case:

  1. Follow the first two steps in the instructions above.

  2. Next, confirm your trusted phone number. Enter the number and click Continue.

  3. You'll get a screen that tells you to check your trusted devices.

Look for a notification shown on your devices message in Forgot Apple ID web page
  4. On one of your trusted devices, a Reset Password pop-up window appears. Click or tap Allow.

  5. Enter the device's passcode.

  6. Then enter your new Apple ID password, enter it a second time for verification and tap Next to change your password.

How to Reset Your Apple ID Password in iTunes on a Mac

If you use a Mac and prefer this approach, you can also reset your Apple ID password via iTunes. Here's how:

  1. Begin by launching iTunes on your computer.

  2. Click the Account menu.

  3. Click Sign In.

Sign In in iTunes on macOS

  5. In the next pop-window, enter your Apple ID.

  6. Another pop-up window will ask you to enter the password you use for your computer user account. This is the password you use to log on to the computer.

  7. Enter your new password, enter it a second time for verification, and then click Continue.

  8. If you have dual-factor authentication enabled, you'll need to enter your trusted phone number.

You can use this process in the iCloud System Preferences panel, too. To do that, go to Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Account Details > Forgot Password?

How to Set an Account Recovery Contact

Users of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterrey (12.0) have another option for resetting their iCloud password: account recovery contacts. With this feature, you'll designate a trusted person who can provide a recovery key once you've answered a few questions to Apple to verify your identity. You should set this feature up in advance, since you won't be able to access these settings without your iCloud account.

To designate an account recovery contact on your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings [your name] > Password and Security > Account Recovery and tap Add Recovery Contact. Then, follow the instructions to invite someone to be your ACR. They'll have to agree to the request before they'll come up during the password-reset process.

On a Mac, go to System Preferences > Apple ID > Password & Security > Account Recovery and select Add Recovery Contact. The same directions apply here as on an iPhone. In either case, you must have two-factor authorization active to designate a recovery contact.

However you chose to reset your password, with all the steps completed, you should be able to log into your account again. Try logging in to the iTunes Store or another Apple service with the new password to make sure it works. If it doesn't, go through this process again and make sure you keep track of your new password.

Why Your Apple ID Is so Important

Because your Apple ID is used so for many of Apple's important services, forgetting your Apple ID password can create a lot of problems. Without being able to log into your Apple ID, you may not be able to use iMessage or FaceTime, Apple Music, or the iTunes Store, and you won't be able to make changes to your iTunes account.

Most people use the same Apple ID for all their Apple services (technically you can use one Apple ID for things like FaceTime and iMessage and another for the iTunes Store, but most people don't do that). That makes forgetting your password a particularly serious problem.

How to Use the Walmart Grocery App

The Walmart Grocery app is an easy way to get food and other consumer goods delivered to your home. You can also place an order for pickup at your local store. Here's what you need to know about the app and how it works.

Walmart announced in early 2020 that it's folding its standalone Grocery app into its main app. Grocery app users will transition to the main app throughout the year. Their account information will remain intact, including favorites, order history, and payment methods. Once the transition is finished, Walmart will retire the standalone Grocery app. The instructions in this guide are for the integrated Walmart shopping and grocery app.

What Is the Walmart Grocery App?

The Walmart Grocery App lets you shop online for food and household products from the giant retailer. Then, it gives you the option of home delivery or curbside pickup. You pay the same price you would in a physical store. Walmart promises there are no markups or hidden fees. If an item is out-of-stock, the store substitutes it with a similar item (but only if you opt into substitutions). It's available on both iOS and Android.

How to Order for Pickup in the Walmart Grocery App

There's no fee for curbside pickup, which makes it the cheaper option. Here's how it works:

  1. Open the app and sign in to your account if necessary. Then select Pickup & delivery.

The Shop Pickup & Delivery button in the Walmart app
  2. Select Change if necessary, then tap the Pickup tab.

The Pickup tab in the Walmart app
  3. Enter your zip code for a list of Walmart stores in your area. Pick the one you want to order groceries from.

The ZIP field in the Walmart app
  4. Tap See times and tap a circle next to a time slot to reserve a date and time.

Once you reserve a date and time, the app holds that reservation for an hour. If you don't complete your order during that hour, the reservation time is released, but your order is saved in the app. You just need to reschedule your pickup time.

Pick a date and time for your Walmart pickup or delivery
  5. Add items to your order. Use the search bar at the top to locate products. Tap Add to include an item in your order.

Tap the heart icon to favorite an item for future orders.

The Add button in the Walmart app
  6. When you finish adding items, tap the bag icon in the lower-right corner to view your cart. Make any changes, if necessary.

The bag icon in the Walmart app
  7. Tap Check out when you're ready to place the order.

The Check Out button in the Walmart app
  8. The app may suggest more products to you at this point. Tap Continue.

  9. Review your order details for the final time, then select Place order.

The Place Order button in the Walmart app
  10. The store sends you a text or email when your order is ready. When your scheduled pickup day arrives, check-in with the app to let the store know you're on your way.

  11. When you arrive at the store, follow the orange signs to park in a designated pickup spot. Enter your parking spot number and car color in the app, so you're easier to locate.

  12. A Walmart associate brings your order to the car and helps load it for you. You need to sign for it afterward.

Walmart has temporarily moved to a no-contact pickup process in some areas. It suggests you stay in your vehicle during pickup and keep the windows rolled up. If you need to show ID for certain items, display your license through the window.

How to Order for Delivery in the Walmart Grocery App

Scheduling a delivery in the Walmart Grocery app is similar to placing a pickup order. But, unlike pickup, delivery isn't free. The cost varies somewhere between $8 and $10, and you may need to order a minimum of $30 worth of groceries. There's also a yearly subscription that costs $98 a year. Its main benefit is no per-delivery fees if you order the minimum amount of groceries, which can save you money if you use the service more than once a month. Here's how to place a delivery order:

  1. Open the app and sign in to your account if necessary. Then select Pickup & delivery.

The Shop Pickup & Delivery button in the Walmart app
  2. Select Change if necessary, then tap the Delivery tab.

The Delivery tab in the Walmart app
  3. Select Add to enter your home address, if necessary. Then, tap the address to choose it as your delivery destination.

The Add Address button in the Walmart app
  4. Next, reserve a time and date for delivery. The delivery fee changes depending on what time you choose, and it's listed on the right side.

The Delivery fee column in the Walmart app
  5. Add items to your order. Use the search bar at the top to locate products. Tap Add to include an item in your order.

  7. Tap Check out when you're ready to place the order.

The Check Out button in the Walmart app
  8. The app may suggest more products to you at this point. Tap Continue.

  9. Review your order details for the final time, then select Place order.

Choose to let the driver leave the groceries at your door if you prefer a contactless delivery. Select the Leave at your door check box.

The Place Order button in the Walmart app
  10. You will receive a text message or email when the driver is on the way.

What to Do If You Have Problems With Your Order Through the Walmart Grocery App

If you have an issue with one or more of the items in your order, request a refund directly in the Walmart Grocery app. Here's how:

  1. Tap the menu icon in the upper-left corner, then select Purchase history.

Purchase History in the Walmart app
  2. Select your order, then tap Start a return.

The Start a Return button in the Walmart app

  4. Select a reason for the refund. The options are:

    • Damaged

    • Don't Like Substitute
    • Poor Quality
    • Past Expiration
You need to specify a reason why you want a refund in the Walmart app
  5. Review the information, then tap Submit request.
